Although there are differing opinions as to whether machine vision and like industries are in fact a definable and separate part of the manufacturing process, there have been reports to suggest that the market for such technologies has exceeded a billion dollars and in today's dollars might be closer to two billion. This number is of course dependent on how complex and independent a system is from the overall manufacturing process. Despite the increase in use of such systems it is also estimated that machine vision options are utilized in far fewer company processes in which they would be useful overall.
